Encryption and Decryption
Our website uses 40-bit and 128-bit encryption technology to ensure that unauthorized parties cannot access your personal information. Data sent from the user's PC is encrypted before transmission. Encryption converts the data into a format that can be safely transmitted over the Internet. Encrypted data cannot be read until it reaches its destination and is decoded, using a decryption key.
A digital authentication certificate is issued and managed by a recognized and trusted certification authority. Desjardins Trust uses VeriSign, a world leader in certificate authentication, to ensure the encryption of client data and certify that it originates from Desjardins Trust.
Only users with the correct combination of User Code and Personal Identification Number (PIN) are granted access to the website. The user code is unique to each fund company and the PIN is unique to each individual.

It should be noted that email transmissions to Desjardins Trust are not secure. However, they are secure once they reach us. You should therefore avoid sending confidential data and information in any email to us.
The confidentiality of personal information and your security are important to us
Desjardins Trust has taken all the required measures to ensure the confidentiality and security of your personal information. We have a strict internal policy whereby your file can only be accessed by employees whose professional duties require them to do so. The information we have about you can never be released or sold.
Why do we need your personal information?
There are many reasons we need your personal information, but the main ones are:
- To enable us to meet your needs by providing you with suitable products and services
- To stay in contact with you
- To comply with legal requirements
The right not to provide personal information
Although we need this information to properly meet your needs, you may, at any time, refuse to provide or withhold certain personal information. However, in that case, we will not always be able to deliver a complete range of services, advise you properly or meet some of your needs.
Cookies are used on our site. They identify your browser software when you move from site to site or page to page during a Web session. This information can then be used to identify you and facilitate your access to a site and your ability to navigate within our site. Cookies can only be read by the website that sends them to your computer.
When you access our site directly or through an ad redirecting to our site, a cookie file is automatically created in your computer. Our server and possibly third-party ad servers can access this file in order to improve your experience on our site and in some instances promote our products. While they enable the site to identify you as a specific user, they don't recognize you by your name or other personal information. No personal information is collected through cookies.
We may collect information for statistical purposes, for instance, to determine a page's popularity, the average number of pages accessed per visitor, and the average time each visitor spends on the site. Cookies may also allow us to display Desjardins ads if you access an external site which displays those ads.
We use two types of cookies:
- Session cookies: these are not stored on your hard drive and are deleted when you log off our site.
- Persistent cookies: these are stored on your hard drive and recalled at your next visit. They are stored as text files in order to prevent any viruses or programs from accessing your data.
Steps you can take to improve your security
Although we do everything possible to ensure your security, there are certain steps you can take to help:
Password: The first time you enter Private Access, you will be required to choose a new password to replace the password you were previously assigned. Once you do so, you will be the only person who knows your password.
Your new password must have at least eight characters. One character must be an uppercase (capital) letter, one a lowercase (small) letter and one a number. Do not choose a password based on personal information. Always keep your password secret.
We recommend that you regularly change your password. When you do, be sure not to use part of a former password. To change your password, use the Password Change function in the Private Access section.
Empty your browser's cache: At the end of each online session of financial transactions, it's important to empty your browser's cache. This will prevent intruders from gaining access to your personal financial information.
Take the time to end your session properly: You will reduce the risk of intrusion by making sure to end your session properly. Although you will be disconnected automatically after an idle period, it is best if you log off yourself once you have completed your transactions and thus reduce the amount of time until the automatic disconnection.
Google will use the information collected to:
- analyze your use of the Sites and Applications
- compile reports on Site and Application activity
- provide other services related to Site and Application activity as well as Internet use
DoubleClick is a cookie that Google Analytics uses to collect anonymous information. Google Analytics' Advertising Features on sites that use DoubleClick include:
- Google Display Network Impression Reporting
- DoubleClick platform integrations and Google Analytics Demographics and Interest Reporting
Google Analytics uses the User ID feature on the Sites and Applications. The feature makes it possible to associate information regarding relationships between various computer tools and several sessions with unique identifiers. Each User ID represents an individual anonymous user in Google Analytics.
When browsing, you can deactivate Google Analytics and/or DoubleClick by selecting the appropriate browser or computer tool parameters, advertising parameters, mobile advertisement parameters or other, notably the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
By using the Sites or Applications, you expressly agree to allow Google to process personal data under the conditions and for the purposes outlined above.
